Olivia’s Story
Olivia was found as a piglet running along the side of the highway. Based on where she was found, her size, and how badly she was bruised and scraped up, it’s very likely she’d jumped from an animal hauler with hundreds of other weeks-old piglets on its way to another barn. While many of our residents come in from animal protection organizations or surrender requests from individuals/families, a few come in through emergencies like Olivia.
When Olivia arrived at TAS, it took awhile for her to regain her strength and health. Many nights of cuddles, healthy food, lots of love, and medical care helped her through it. During that time, she became attached to Etta, one of the dogs at TAS. Olivia would follow her everywhere and Etta would check in on her. Olivia now shares a space with her pig pals, May and Judy. Her favourite place in the summer is her mud wallow and her favourite place in winter is cuddled up with her roomies in the straw of their shelter. She really loves watermelons and apples, and belly rubs, flopping over with the slightest hint of a belly rub.
Pigs are so gentle, intelligent, kind and sensitive. The way they are treated is a nightmare: confined, frightened, and treated like products their entire existence. Pigs can live to 15 years, but they are slaughtered at only 6 months old. We are so glad Olivia escaped this devastating path and found her way to the safety and comfort of sanctuary life. Here she will know love and kindness her whole life.
